Why Do PCI Cables Have 2 Ends?

There are various types of PCI cables that individuals use. Most of these are used for their graphics card. This is because it helps them in editing their videos and playing games. However, most people do not know why these wires have two ends. They are also not sure which one should be connected to the GPU & which one should go into the Power Supply Unit (PSU).

The first thing that you need to understand is that the cable has two ends because the graphics cards require high amounts of power. In order to accommodate this, the 6 pin connector has been created. The 6 pin PCI-E power cables provide an additional 75 watts of power to the graphics cards. However, there are some high-end video cards that require more than this amount of power. This is when the 8-pin connectors come into play.

It is important that you do not force the cable into either of the sockets. If you force the connector into the wrong place, you may experience issues such as Coil Whine. Therefore, it is crucial that you pay attention to the orientation of the connector and align it correctly. Also, do not apply too much pressure as this may damage the connector type on the cables or ports. This can cause power delivery issues & overheating of the graphics card. In such cases, it is best to use separate PCIe cables for your GPU.
