Occlusion procedures are those that completely close off an orifice or the lumen of a tubular body part. This differs from restriction, which only partially closes the orifice or tubular lumen. These procedures are predominantly used in the vascular territory.

A number of complications have been described in the literature, such as bronchial blocker entrapment and insertion (1,2,3). However, the most common complication of airway instrumentalization is occlusion. This article describes techniques for minimizing this complication.
