Welcome to the pc world
A PC, or personal computer, is a multipurpose computing device with a microprocessor and a memory storage system. It may also be referred to as a desktop computer, laptop computer, tablet PC or handheld PC.
The first PCs, including the Altair 8800 from inventors Bill Gates and Paul Allen, were small enough to fit on a desk or in a home. They were based on Intel microprocessors and ran software, such as the spreadsheet program 1-2-3, from Lotus Development Corporation. The IBM Corporation entered the market in 1981 with its personal computer, which was faster and had more memory than competing computers. Its microprocessor and operating system became industry standards.
Today, a PC is an essential tool in the workplace and at home. It can run many different types of software applications, which are digital programs that carry out tasks and deliver functionality. The most common are email, web browsers and word processors. Some are available free and open-source, while others are proprietary, such as Microsoft Windows, macOS from Apple or Linux systems.
The hardware of a PC includes the monitor, keyboard and mouse and internal components such as a motherboard and CPU. Its storage system consists of disk drives and random access memory (RAM), or short-term memory that holds data while it is being used by the central processing unit, or CPU. The CPU is responsible for the arithmetic and logic operations that perform computational functions, as well as the flow of information between the different hardware components.
