Toshiba Satellite C55-C5241 Review

If you are looking for a laptop to use for Netflix, web-browsing and other similar non graphically demanding activities; the Toshiba Satellite C55-C5241 might be a good fit. It packs a powerful fifth generation Intel Core i5 5200U CPU paired with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive, for a fairly reasonable price.

Users are generally pleased with the performance and features available on this system for a sub $500 machine, although some have been frustrated by the lack of back-lit keyboard and touch screen options. Others have commented that the software seems streamlined and doesn't include a lot of bloatware that consumes excess CPU and RAM resources.

The 2.2 GHz fifth generation Intel Core i5-5200U processor with Mobile Intel HD 5500 graphics is a solid performer that will handle mainstream tasks. In fact, it performed almost identically to the more expensive Toshiba Satellite S55-B5280 in our test suite with the only difference being a slightly lower battery life.

Another positive feature is the inclusion of an ethernet port, which isn't always seen on affordable systems. Also, the laptop is M-DISC ready for archival purposes allowing you to store your digital memories on long-lasting discs. Other notable positives are the large touchpad with palm rejection technology and the wide range of ports which includes both USB 2.0 and 3.0 as well as an HDMI port. Lastly, the machine comes with Windows 10 preinstalled which is always a plus.
