Toshiba Encore 2 WT10-A32 Review

Toshiba’s Encore 2 tablet isn’t the most beautiful to look at, but it does offer a solid, utilitarian design and an affordable price. It has a 10.1-inch HD TruBrite IPS multitouch display and comes with Windows 8.1 and a one-year subscription to Office 365. It also includes a Bluetooth keyboard that can help you get work done on this tablet.

It has a 1.2-megapixel front camera and a 5-megapixel rear camera. You can use these cameras to take pictures, video chat and make video calls. This tablet has a micro-USB port, a microSD card slot and a mini HDMI port for connecting to devices such as TVs. There is no USB port to connect a mouse or keyboard, so you will need a Bluetooth set for getting serious work done on this tablet.

The Encore 2 is powered by a quad-core Intel Atom Z3735G processor and has 1GB of RAM. This isn’t enough to handle heavy tablet work but should be adequate for most other tasks. It also ships with Microsoft’s Windows 8.1, which is a better touch-friendly operating system than the earlier version of the OS.

When we ran our File Transfer Test, the Encore 2 copied 4.97GB of mixed media files in 2 minutes and 9 seconds for a rate of 39.5 MBps. This was faster than the Aspire Switch 10 (23 MBps), Transformer Book T100 (25.3 MBps) and the category average of 27.7 MBps. However, the Encore 2’s aging Atom processor showed its limitations on our OpenOffice Spreadsheet Test, taking 22 minutes and 33 seconds to match 20,000 names and addresses.
