Thinkware X500 Rear Camera Review

Thinkware x500 rear camera

Aside from offering a wide-angle rear view video, the thinkware x500 is pretty unique in that it also offers road safety warning system functions that other dash cams don’t have. You can enable Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Front Collision Warning System (FCWS), and Front Vehicle Departure Warning (FVDW) by navigating through the settings on the 2.7” LCD screen on the dashcam.

These features trigger when the X500 detects any kind of movement around your car, whether it’s someone trying to illegally pull out in front of you, or a bump in the road that can cause your rearview mirror to move. If an impact occurs, the X500 will save footage from 4 seconds before and 2 seconds after the event to its internal memory, thanks to thinkware’s Dual Save Technology.

I’m not sure how well this feature works because it seems like it would be easy to get triggered by going over bumps or driving over potholes and other imperfections in the road. But, if it does work well, it’s certainly a nice feature to have and adds an extra layer of security to your driving experience.

The X500 comes with a small clear plastic mount that clips onto your windshield and can be adjusted for optimum viewing. It uses a single direction hinge that moves toward or away from the center of your windshield, and it can be mounted using 3M tape or by mounting it directly to your dashboard using its mount connector port.
