While the answer is technically yes, it's not something that should be done, as the two connectors have different hole shapes and carry completely different voltages. Why Does My Graphics Card Need An 8 Pin Power Cable?

Typically, high-end graphics cards require more power than the standard 75 watts that they get from the PCI-E slot. This is because they're capable of handling much higher frame rates and graphics settings than their entry-level counterparts. This is why it's necessary to have an 8 pin power cable, which will allow the GPU to draw up to 150 watts directly from your power supply, bypassing the motherboard entirely.

While it's possible to use a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter, doing so will cause the wire to overheat and melt. This is because a 6-pin connector can only safely deliver 75 watts of power, whereas an 8 pin PEG connector delivers up to 150 watts. If this happens, it can damage the GPU and potentially short out your motherboard's power rails, which will lead to a complete system failure.
