Steam Deck Trackpad Problems

The Steam Deck has a set of trackpads on its left and right side that can respond to a player’s clicks, bringing haptic feedback to the handheld console. They can make playing PC games on the device a bit easier, especially in situations where a mouse and keyboard would be impractical. However, some users are having issues with the trackpads, with one or both of them not activating when playing certain games or at all. This isn’t an issue that affects the entire user base, and it’s something that can be fixed with a few simple steps.

First, ensure that you’re in Gaming Mode (Steam > Settings > Gamepads). If you aren’t, then you can switch over there by pressing the L1 and R1 buttons while the game is on. Next, scroll down to “Quick Settings” and adjust the Y-Axis Inversion and the Sensitivity Level. The sliders determine the amount of pressure that must be applied for the trackpad to register a click. The further left it goes emphasizes horizontal sensitivity while the further right increases vertical sensitivity.

Another setting you can adjust is the Mouse Region Settings (Steam > Settings > Gamepads > Mouse & Trackpad Settings). Here, you can change how far your mouse region extends horizontally and vertically. You can also select if you want the Mouse Region to be a Single Mouse button or a Multi-Button.
