The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti might seem like an old GPU by now, but it's still got some big fight left in it despite facing new competition from the much cheaper and more efficient 4070 ti. In this article, we'll take a look at some of the key differences between these two cards and see how they perform head-to-head.
The 4070 ti is built on the newer Nvidia Lovelace architecture and is designed to deliver better performance than the older 3090, thanks to its lower power consumption. It can achieve high frame rates in games at 1440p and even utilize Nvidia's DLSS 3 to make things smoother in some titles. It also features ray tracing, although this feature isn't available in every game.
Temperatures stayed within safe limits on both cards during our tests, with the 4070 ti reaching 62degC and the 3090 Ti closer to 59degC. However, in our Spider-Man Miles Morales test the older card actually managed to pull ahead, with its average framerate being a bit higher at 883 FPS. This is likely due to the fact that the RTX 3090 Ti has a much larger manufacturing process and is able to dissipate more heat than the 4070 ti.
Regardless, the 4070 ti is a great option for those looking to build a gaming PC on a budget, as it can handle modern AAA games at 1440p and even use ray tracing or DLSS 3 in some cases. The only real downside is that it has a 12GB limit, which might be an issue for those who plan on running games at 4K resolution.
