Remind Me to Take Out the Trash Tonight

Trash day is a small but important task that contributes to the cleanliness and comfort of your living environment. However, with busy schedules and numerous responsibilities, it can be easy to forget about trash removal. Regular reminders can help prevent missed trash days and establish a consistent routine, making this important chore more convenient and less likely to slip through the cracks. Timely trash removal prevents unpleasant odors, deters pests, and ensures that waste is properly disposed of. It also promotes environmentally-friendly practices such as recycling and composting.

Trash reminders can be triggered by a variety of methods, including mobile devices, virtual assistants, and calendar apps. For example, you can use voice-activated reminders like Siri or Google Assistant to set a recurring alarm for your trash pickup day. For an added convenience, you can sync your reminder to a smart home system to receive visual or audible alerts when it’s time to take out the trash.

For years, Google Assistant has allowed users to keep track of their to-dos with the Reminders feature, but the company announced Thursday that it’s now moving the functionality into a hub called “Tasks.” As such, you can now say something like “Hey, Google, remind me to take out the trash tonight,” and have the service create a reminder that will be active at your requested time and date. This is a far more intuitive option than having to write down a reminder in your to-do list or using a separate productivity app, such as Apple’s Reminders.
