NTI Echo 3 Review

NTI Echo 3 ($20, buy-only) is a copying utility that makes cloning hard drives and partitions dirt simple. It works well, and it’s relatively inexpensive.

If you want to replace your computer’s hard disk drive (HDD) with a newer, faster solid state drive (SSD), Echo is the perfect solution. This smart cloning software is designed to make the upgrade process easy and efficient for users of all experience levels.

Echo offers a variety of cloning options including one-to-one cloning, user defined cloning and dynamic resize cloning. With dynamic resize cloning, the original drive's partition sizes are automatically resized to fit on the replacement disk. After cloning is complete, simply swap out the old HDD and reboot to boot from the SSD.

Although Echo performs a great job, it could be more proactive in its warning of overwriting data on the destination drive. The warning comes only after selecting the new drive from a list and is not clearly called out as some programs do. Additionally, cloning takes place during a reboot, which can be disruptive to some users.

If you’re looking for an alternative to NTI Echo, AOMEI Backupper is the best choice. It’s the ideal NTI Echo alternative and supports a wide range of hard disks and SSDs, including RAID, NAS, virtual machine and Microsoft Surface devices. It provides a number of advanced features to help you upgrade your hard drive, such as Filter Cloning, Sector by Sector Clone, one-to-one clone and more.
