Lumia 635 Vs 521 - Is it Worth It?

The lumia 635 is a good choice for those who don't need much from a smartphone. It's a solid basic phone for calls, texts and e-mail with a decent camera and solid reception. But its 512MB of RAM makes it less than ideal for multitasking, and it's no match for today's top Android and iPhone models.

For that reason, it's not for everyone. But for people who need a basic, no-frills smartphone without a contract and who can't afford an Android or iPhone, the lumia 635 is worth considering.

T-Mobile and Microsoft launched it last week, replacing the budget Lumia 520 in its lineup. It runs $0 down + $7 per month for 24 months ($168 total) on a Simple Choice plan, or you can buy it prepaid for $99.

There are some sacrifices to be made with the lumia 635 to keep the price low: no front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel rear camera that's fine for snapshots but not great for photography enthusiasts. But overall, this is a well-rounded handset that delivers more than you'd expect for the price and is likely to outperform similarly priced smartphones from competitors like Huawei or Motorola.

The back of the phone is covered in a matte finish that makes it easier to grip. The signature oblong Lumia buttons are on the right spine to control volume, power and the camera shutter. There's a 3.5mm headset jack on top and a Micro-USB charging port down below. The removable 1,430mAh battery is rated for up to 9.6 hours of talk time and 15 days of standby.
