Today it can be challenging to find quality food for under a dollar, but La Casa Fierro in Roosevelt Park makes that possible on Tuesdays and Fridays for just 99 cents for beef tacos, American style with lettuce and cheese or Mexican-style with onion and cilantro. Original owner Pablo Fierro first introduced this menu over 10 years ago; MLive statewide entertainment reporter John "Gonzo" Gonzalez stopped in on Thursday for dinner to find that they still stand strong under new ownership.
Family-run restaurant El Azteka is known for its burritos, fajitas and enchiladas; but what really stands out is their daily taco buffet from 4-7 p.m. It features an assortment of meats and toppings such as their signature Big Taco--a homemade 13-inch tortilla deep fried and packed with beans, meat, lettuce tomato cheese and sour cream that customers who finish in 15 minutes will receive a free t-shirt as part of a challenge that started back in November and has since proven popular with patrons who participate every time.
