How to Turn Off DMs on Discord

If you’re a Discord user, you probably know that DMs are one of the most popular ways to communicate on the platform. However, some people may use DMs to spam you or harass you, which can be very annoying. Thankfully, there are some things you can do to prevent this.

If someone DMs you but it doesn’t appear in your DM list, it is possible that they have blocked you or disabled receiving messages from server members on their account. You can check this by opening the DMs menu and looking for a green checkmark next to “Disable messages from server members.” You can click on this to switch it to an X, which will disable this feature. However, existing DMs will still show up in your DM list, and they’ll be unaffected by this change.

You can also open the Message Requests folder by clicking on it in the left sidebar of the Discord application. This folder shows DMs that were sent to you by users who have not added you as a friend. However, if you want to stop receiving DMs from people who have not added you as a friend, you’ll need to remove them as a friend.

Whether you’re being spammed or simply getting annoyed by too many messages, Discord offers some helpful options for limiting DMs and other notifications. By adjusting your privacy settings and blocking specific usernames, you can take control of your messaging experience on the platform.
