How to Turn Off Direct Messages on Discord

Discord is a popular messaging platform for gamers and tech enthusiasts. However, some users may experience an influx of unwanted messages from people they don’t know. These can be spam or scams, and can be quite distracting. This article will walk you through how to turn off direct messages on discord, so that you don’t have to deal with these annoyances anymore.

By default, people who you share a server with can message you directly on Discord. This can be annoying for some people, especially if they don’t want to accept friend requests from strangers. However, this feature does provide security and convenience for those who use Discord often.

While there is no way to stop everyone from messaging you, Discord has made it easy to heavily restrict who can message you. You can do this by going to your settings menu and clicking on the Privacy & Safety option. In this menu, there is a toggle for “Allow direct messages from server members.” Once you turn it off, server members will not be able to message you, even if they are on your friends list.

This feature will still allow you to receive messages from your friends, so it is important to only disable this for servers that you regularly use. Disabling this setting will greatly reduce the amount of DMs you receive from strangers. You can always turn it back on if you change your mind. This feature is also available on mobile, where you can open the DM menu by clicking your profile picture in the top left corner of the screen.
