How to Connect AirPods Max to a New Device

The Apple AirPods Max are a pair of wireless over-ear headphones that combine high-fidelity audio with advanced Active Noise Cancellation technology. They are Apple's most advanced AirPods to date and offer a premium listening experience that rivals many other headphones in the $300 price range. You can use them to listen to music, take calls, and give voice commands with Siri. You can also connect them to your Apple TV, Mac, or other devices to enjoy their benefits in a wired mode. If you're moving to a new device, you might wonder how to connect your AirPods Max. In this article, we'll show you how to put your earbuds in pairing mode and connect them to any other compatible devices.

Before you begin, make sure your AirPods Max have a good charge and are connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth. Also, ensure that the new device you're connecting to has the latest version of tvOS or macOS installed. You can check for updates by selecting the Apple menu and selecting System Preferences. If tvOS or macOS is updated, your AirPods will appear in the list of nearby Bluetooth devices and will automatically sync with any other Apple or iOS device you have signed into with your iCloud account.

If you're using an iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and tap Bluetooth. Then select your AirPods or AirPods Pro from the list of available devices. If you have an iPhone XS, XR, or later, you can hold the noise control button on the back of the case (it will have a white status light) for five seconds or until the headphones show up under Devices in Bluetooth settings.

You can connect your AirPods to any other iOS device that supports Bluetooth, as well as many third-party Android phones and tablets, and popular gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X/S. You can even play them in wired mode by plugging them into the Lightning port on your Mac or Windows PC. When you're not using them, they're automatically stored in their Smart Case to preserve battery charge.

The wireless earbuds also have a feature that allows them to automatically switch between two devices. You can start listening to a podcast on one of your Apple devices, and the audio will switch over to the other if you start speaking to Siri or taking a phone call. You can also listen to the same podcast on both your Apple devices, or on a different device and pick up the audio where you left off.

To use Automatic Device Switching, you need to be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all your devices and have iOS 14.3 or later, macOS Big Sur 11.1 or later, or tvOS 12.2 or later. Also, you must be on the same Wi-Fi network and within range of each other. You can also manually choose which device you want to use your AirPods with by choosing them in the list of available devices.
