EVE Valkyrie Sign Up For Pre-Alpha Testing on the Oculus Rift

EVE Valkyrie is the kind of game that was practically made for virtual reality headsets. The multiplayer space dogfighting shooter is a jaw-dropping experience, complete with stunning vistas, astonishing maneuvers, and massive ship-bursting lasers. It’s also the sort of game that will be one of the Rift’s (and Sony’s Morpheus) killer apps.

The only problem is that, even though the game has plenty of gameplay potential, it feels a little short on content after you’ve played for a couple of hours. There are lots of little things to unlock, but achieving them requires marathon sessions of gameplay and a grind to earn the in-game currency needed to buy the unlocked items. Worse still, there’s a big emphasis on “implants” that boost XP gains temporarily and can be purchased with earned in-game currency or with real cash.

Today at Fanfest 2015 in Reykjavik CCP Games announced a way for existing EVE Online and Dust 514 players to sign up for a spot in the Valkyrie pre-alpha program. The only requirement is that you own an Oculus Rift DK2. To register, simply head to this page and fill out a quick form. New players will be admitted in waves starting just before the first test. There isn’t a lot more to say about the program beyond this announcement, but CCP will likely be giving more details in the coming months as the beta approacheth. We’re expecting a full public release later this year.
