Elite Dangerous Mineral Oil

Elite Dangerous Mineral Oil

The exploitation of planets in the Elite Dangerous universe allows players to collect many different raw materials, including minerals. These can then be refined in the ship's refiner to create valuable wares, such as mineral oil. This ware has a very high demand and can be sold in systems far away from any station or planetary base, so is often the most profitable to sell on board your ship.

Untreated and mildly treated mineral oils are carcinogenic to humans (Group 1). The mutagenicity of these oils is related to their polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon content. The ability of mineral oils to degrade rapidly in the air leads to their deposition in the lungs, where they may cause lipoid pneumonitis. The diverse nature of work environments in which these oils are used and the presence of other agents that may affect lung health make it difficult to assess their role in occupational carcinogenesis.

A genotoxic evaluation of six mineral-oil samples, prepared using dimethyl sulfoxide, was performed with Salmonella typhimurium strain TA98 in the presence of an exogenous source of metabolic activation. Five of the six samples were mutagenic, and the results suggest that the carcinogenic potential of the oils is primarily due to their polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon content.

Chronic constipation is a common problem in children with neurological impairment, and mineral oil is commonly used for its efficacy and infrequent side effects. The CPS does not include a warning relating to the risk of aspiration of mineral oil, and the use of this over-the-counter preparation should be considered cautiously in patients with swallowing dysfunction.
