CorelDRAW Home & Student Suite X7 Review

Design your way with CorelDRAW Home & Student Suite X7. This Windows graphic design suite provides illustration, tracing, page layout, web graphics and photo-editing features to create creative school reports, drawings, visual presentations, flyers, unique logos and business cards. The suite also includes professionally-designed templates and 2 hours of video training to help you get started.

The suite has a completely redesigned customizable interface that is constructed exactly to your skill level, making it an easy switch for former Creative Suite users. It also comes with a slew of new features, including the ability to embed fonts into native projects, high DPI support, multi-display and touchscreen compatibility. A new Welcome Screen pools multiple resources like templates, recent documents and updates and offers the option to choose from pre-defined workspaces. The Object Properties tab has been revamped and now includes transparency settings, while the Fill tab now features category-based pattern fills.

Among the most interesting new tools is a QR code generator, which lets you create codes that can link to URLs, email addresses, calendar events and more. Previously, you could use the program to create these types of codes, but they were limited in their functionality and weren't always accurate. This latest version fixes that problem and adds the ability to instantly validate them, which is a handy feature.

CorelDRAW has been around for some time and this latest version offers excellent vector drawing, sketching and page layout tools. Its LiveSketch feature is particularly impressive and could well be enough to entice tablet users away from Inkscape. The suite also comes with a decent selection of high-quality clipart and digital images, 125 fonts and 75 photo frames as well as a library of templates through the built-in Content Exchange community.
