Battlestar Galactica Online Reviews

Developed by European casual MMO giant Bigpoint and loosely based on the 2004 TV series, Battlestar Galactica Online puts players in the pilot seat of either a Colonial Viper or Cylon Raider as both sides prepare to do battle in the depths of space. The free-to-play browser-based MMO allows players to choose between human and cylon factions, climb into their chosen ship and blast the enemy to space dust.

While the game can be a little mindless in terms of resource gathering and the like, its fun in the moment combat makes it a worthwhile experience for anyone with a love for the show or simply an appreciation for scifi shooters. The game does suffer from a couple of problems – its lack of NPC characters to interact with, and some of the dialogue can be dull and repetitive – but overall it’s a solid experience for anyone with an interest in the show or simply a fan of space shooters.

The open beta for the new Battlestar Galactica Online MMO from Bigpoint Games and Artplant is now available. The game takes place about half way through the events of the original TV series, when the Cylons launched a sneak attack on humanity and the survivors were forced to flee the Twelve Colonies in a fleet of civilian ships led by the aptly named Battlestar Galactica. The game is free-to-play, with the option of paying for additional features. This is a risky move, as PVP is very prevalent in the game and cash stores can easily allow victory to go to the deepest pockets, rather than the fastest ships.
