A PCIe Cable Has Two Ends

A pcie cable has two ends and one of them plugs into the graphics card. The other end connects to your power supply unit. The end that connects to your power supply will have either a 6 or 8 pin connector, depending on the type of PCIe cable you have bought.

Often, the different ends of a pcie power cable have different colors or printed warnings. This makes it easy to identify which end goes where. However, sometimes this is not the case and it is difficult to tell if you have the wrong end connected. It is important to know which end of a pcie cable is plugged into the power supply unit and which end goes into your graphics card. This is because if the incorrect end is connected then it could short out the power supply unit and potentially cause damage to your graphics card or other components inside your computer.

The pcie cables have different ends because they are designed for different types of devices. Some of these devices require more power than others and this is why the pcie cables have different connections on each end. The connections on the pcie cables are also polarized so you cannot insert them into the motherboard the wrong way.

For example, if you try to plug an 8 pin pcie cable into a motherboard with EPS (Early Power Support) 8 pin 12 volt connectors then the cable will not fit and you may damage the cable or the motherboard. The same is true for the other way around.
